Yes. it is that time of year again ghouls and ghosts!!!!!
Halloween is my favorite holiday for a number of reasons. For one it is not as belligerently commercialized the way that Christmas is. Two, my family doesn't get together and brawl the way they would on Thanksgiving. Three, SLUTTY COSTUMES. No, for real, Halloween is just fun and awesome. One of the best reasons is the music. Yes, there are tons of bands, especially in metal, that use spooky imagery in their music. However, I'm focusing on bands that to me SCREAM Halloween!! These are my favorite counting down.
#5. Ghoultown "Mistress Of The Dark"
This song SCREAMS Halloween. Nothing is scarier or sexier than Elvira! Ghoultown hail from Texas and have a particular brand of horror/country/rocknroll. CHECK THEM OUT.
Runner-Up: Ghoultown "Drink With The Living Dead"
#4 Ghost "Cirice"
Seriously? How could I not include these guys. While some people talk a lot of smack about how Ghost is a King Diamond rip-off, I totally disagree and I'm one of the most die-hard King Diamond fans you're going to find. Hell, just check out my #2 entry if you don't believe me. All the songs this band has put out are EPIC and HAUNTED. They have a certain Satanic flair that I serously enjoy and their knack for writing seriously catchy gothy hard rock cannot be denied.
Runner-Up: Avewnged Sevenfold "Bat Country"
#3 Creedence Clearwater Revival "I Put A Spell On You"
THIS SONG. Truthfully, this is a cover. However, my grandfather was a HUGE CCR fan so I got this a lot at this time of year. I know, I know, this is supposed to be rocknroll and all that but seriously? What's not rocknroll about this? Listen to that sick solo. The groove is infectious and it is perfect for Halloween. If you want to throw off your party-goers but still want them to jam in the spirit spin this tune.
Runner-Up: Bette Middler from Hocus Pocus "I Put A Spell On You"
#2 King Diamond-Abigail (FULL ALBUM)
I LOVE KING DIAMOND. Yes, the original father of Satanic metal is one of my favorite artists of all time. He made corpse-paint cool, he brought the falsetto into metal and he is still doing at 150,000 years old!!!!! I recently saw the King down in Milwaukee and he has not lost a single step. It was one of the all-time best live shows I have ever laid witness to. There was no one song to best deliver how well his music fits the holiday of Halloween so I figured I'd give you what, in my humble opinion, is his best work.
Abigail is a concept album that tells the story of two lovers who move into a haunted house and some really horrific events take place. LISTEN IF YOU DARE!
Runner-Up: King Diamond "Them" FULL ALBUM
#1 The Misfits "Halloween"
There wouldn't be a playlist or a countdown without posting this song at the top. Honestly, you can't celebrate this holiday as a rocker and not hear this song at least 1000 times. This is the quintessential horror/punk anthem for the spookiest day of the year. Danzig and co. had a particular penchant for delivering great spook-themed songs, however if you want to get at the heart of the matter look no further than this eponymous classic!!!
Runner-Up: The Groovie Goolies "Monster Mash"

As your friendly, neighborhood BallZach, it is my job to roam around the venue making sure everybody is having a good time and rocking out. My goal is that every single fan has a kickass party and a true rocknroll evening. I just want to give a HUGE shoutout to Jason and Carolynn Fields for putting on a great show! Ben and the crew from the Watering Hole for providing such a incredible venue for a rock show! Every band for bringing the house down! It was great to see the boys from I, Prevail, Crown The Emprie and Hollywood Undead get on stage and do their thing!
Most of all I'd like to thank each and every fan that came out and made this show such a success. You guys continue to put up your hard-earned dollars and put the work in to making Northeastern Wisconsin a true concert destination. The more support you give to the venues and to the bands, the more that they are going to continue to come through Green Bay and melt our faces!!!!
A couple of things to take away from last night.
1. A Line Is A Line Is A Line
A lot of the fans that I've talked to complained about the line last night. I can understand that. Last night was cold because the season is beginning to turn and you were standing in line upwards of 2 hours. I want to extend the entire crews apology for that. We are currently working on logistics so that line time is sped up and you don't have to worry about waiting in line for 2 hours. However, it is a rockshow, that's something in life worth waiting for in my opinion.
2. Be Cool To Your Fellow Fans
The venue last night was PACKED. Wall to wall bodies. Now in that kind of confined space it is easy for tempers to flare and people to get a little rowdy, especially when alcohol is involved. Seriously though, don't let your temper get the best of you. You don't want to be ejected. As a fan, you should want the best concert experience for you and everybody else around you. Chill. Relax. Sure, mosh, but don't involve people that don't want to be involved. Don't punch, kick or or bite. Don't make things uncomfortable. You will get ejected from the venue and you don't wnt that to happen. Remember, security is there for the protection of the band, the venue and the fans. They have a job to do and do it exceedingly well. SO BE COOL.
All in all, great show. I can't wait to see everybody out at the Sandlot inside the Watering Hole for the next one!!

So recently Rock USA tore through Ford Festival Park in Oshkosh. it is always a crazy and wild ride and this year was no different. From the old school rock, the amazing live show (complete with fire-works) that Avenged Sevenfold brought, to surviving the apocalypse this year was one for the record books.
After introducing Avenged Sevenfold, we were backstage and my lovely girlfriend Grace, who is always prepared for adventuring of any nature, struck up a conversation with a lady named Dagna from NewYork. They bonded over bugspray. Long story short...Dagna's boyfriend runs Unmetal Inc.
Unmetal Inc. is a t-shirt start-up that features t-shirts of unmetal bands, such as Tom Jones and Celine Dion, that are done up with metal designs. We've all had trouble getting gifts for those non-metal fans in our lives. Be it our parents, significant others are just about anybody we care about who doesn't partake in the harder stuff these people are difficult to buy for. Unmetal Inc. may have your answer. Tom Jones fan? No problem. Get him the one that is done up like the famous "Snaggletooth" logo from Motorhead. Hall and Oates lover? Who is, right? You'd be surprised. For this person there is a shirt done up like the Metallica "Ride the Lightning" cover.
Check them out and let me know what you think!!!!
