TGIF! TGIF! TGIF!….Well, it’s official.  The global music industry has decreed the new release date for anything: singles, dvds, albums, will be on a Friday beginning in July.  No more Mondays in Europe and Tuesdays in the U.S.  It’s FRIDAYS!   Get used to it, people!…..Pulse Of Radio says Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan has posted an update on the band’s new album at its Facebook page, writing, “I’ve been making regular trips to L.A. to check on the writing progress of my Tool brethren. Things are progressing nicely. Slowly, but definitely progressing. Nothing is recorded yet, but the guys are confident that the pieces are coming together swimmingly and will be ready for me to begin writing melodies and content ‘soon.‘”  Keenan added, “I’m as anxious to get this album completed as everyone else. But as history will show, you can’t rush these gents. Patience is Gold in this Sound Mine. In the meantime, as always, other things are simultaneously occurring. Life is too short not to create something with every breath we draw.”  It’s been nine years since Tool released its last album, 2006′s 10,000 Days. The band has toured a number of times since its release but has apparently gotten serious about making a new record in the past year.  Guitarist Adam Jones revealed last July lawsuits involving a former friend of the band and an insurance company had been putting a drag on the group both creatively and financially since 2007.  The ex-friend claimed he was owed money for artwork he had given the group, while the insurance firm — which was supposed to protect the band against such claims — sued the band for “technicalities” regarding the case. OK, so let’s put all that behind us and get crackin’!….Good ole Kid Rock. You can love him or hate him, but he’s always colorful, even when he’s slammin’ on folks I happen to like.   The “American Bad Ass” went hunting, talked guns and took digs at Korn, President Obama and Beyonce in a new interview with Rolling Stone, while praising U.S. troops and Axl Rose. The magazine’s reporter spent a day with Rock, whose real name is Bob Ritchie, at his 500-acre Alabama estate, where Rock shot three wild boar and showed off his gun collection, including a semi-automatic with a silencer. He explained, “Guys with the president carry this. You have to get these pre-1985 with a silencer. I bought it when ‘Obummer’ came into office, because I’m thinking, ‘What if he f**kin’ bans guns?’”  Rock revealed in the interview that being a single dad at 22 and needing to make a living is what inspired him to switch early in his career from doing pure hip-hop to rap-rock, saying, “He was pretty much dropped off at my door at six months old: ‘You raise this f**king kid.’ I was like, ‘This has gotta work.’ So what’s popular? Korn. I knew I can do that s**t in my sleep. But let me throw in “Only God Knows Why” and “Cowboy” so I can have a career.”  Rock told us he’s instilled the value of hard rock into his now-grown son, who has a daughter of his own: I tell my son, I’m like, you know, ‘Make no mistake, you know, I’ve made a lot of money and I know your friends all tell you I’m rich — and I am. You’re not. If I cut you a check right now that’d be doing you a disservice. You’ve got to go out and take hold of this world and go through some of the hardships and try and find your way and, you know, pay your own bills, your cellphone, your car, get an apartment and, you know, get yourself started, and I’m your biggest fan.’”   Also in the interview, Rock discussed Beyonce, saying, “Beyonce, to me, doesn’t have a f**king ‘Purple Rain,’ but she’s the biggest thing on Earth. How can you be that big without at least one ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ or ‘Old Time Rock And Roll’? People are like, ‘Beyonce’s hot. Got a nice f**king ass.’ I’m like, ‘Cool, I like skinny white chicks with big t*ts.’ Doesn’t really f**king do much for me.”   As for Axl Rose, Rock said about the eccentric Guns N’ Roses frontman, “On Axl Rose: I was like, ‘Why’s everyone think this guy’s a d**k? He’s the nicest guy on Earth!’”  Rock unveiled his 10th studio album on Tuesday (Feb 24th), titled First Kiss.   Rock is bringing back his popular “Best Night Ever” tour for a second year. All tickets on his upcoming U.S. trek from the second row to the lawn will be priced at $20, with reduced parking and service fees keeping the total cost below $30. The jaunt kicks off on June 24th in Hartford, CT  and will continue into early Sep. (Thanks Pulse Of Radio)…And finally today, original  Korn  drummer David Silveria is suing his former bandmates, according to TMZ.com. Silveria claims his 2006 exit from the group was merely a hiatus and that he was rebuffed when he tried to return to the band in 2013. Silveria says he still has ownership interest in Korn and is asking a judge to force the band to reveal how much money they’ve made since he left so that he can get his rightful share.  (Editor’s note:  I had heard that when David left Korn, he SOLD his drums and used the cases as furniture in his restaurant in Huntington Beach at the time.  Does that sound like a guy who was taking “hiatus”?)  Silveria is said to be especially upset over the fact Korn welcomed back guitarist Brian “Head” Welch two years ago but wouldn’t do the same for him. Welch left the group in 2005 and continued as a solo artist before rejoining in 2013.  (David, sorry dude, but Ray is such an amazing drummer and all around PERSON, that his addition to the band was a perfect fit.  And if you ask the rest of the band, they will all agree with that statement.)  Silveria told Rolling Stone magazine in December he felt it was “wrong” for Korn to play its self-titled debut album without him on its current tour, saying that he had “just as much of a creative input as any of (the other) guys while writing and making (the) record.”  Korn has been celebrating the 20th anniversary of its first CD by performing the record in its entirety at select gigs.  After his departure from Korn, Silveria retired to Huntington Beach, California and opened a restaurant.  Korn singer Jonathan Davis told us he believed Silveria had lost his passion for playing music, saying, “The first two albums, I think, he really enjoyed playing drums and then after that he just lost his love for playing drums. It happens.” Silveria told fans in 2013 that Korn was not the same since he left, saying, “Until they have the real ‘funky drummer’ it’s just not gonna groove the way it could. I’ve made it clear that I would come back and restore the groove.”  I think all this is just a bunch of sour grapes….On Sunday, Ryan Peake of Nickleback turns 42 and Roger Daltrey of The Who is 71!  I know what I am up to this weekend:  Let the “Orphan Black” binge watching begin!  Or maybe “House of Cards”?  Anyhow, see ya Monday!

See Road Rage….I am hearing some new festivals will be announcing soon, including Rockfest in Cadott, WI.    I also just saw the line up for this year’s Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis, TN.  Five Finger Death PunchRise  Against,  Slash, Breaking BenjaminOf Mice And MenCage The ElephantIn This MomentScott Weiland and more. Ed SheeranRyan AdamsParamoreLenny KravitzPixiesThe Flaming LipsParliament FunkadelicJohn Fogerty  and others are also confirmed. The festival is scheduled for May 1st through the 3rd at Tom Lee Park in downtown Memphis….Earlier this week, we spoke about Rob Zombie’s new film, and today he’s made a casting announcment for his upcoming horror film 31. Zombie has cast Torsten Voges as a character known as the Death-Head. Voges is best known as the nihilist Franz from The Big Lebowski and for his role as Count Gorgann in Zombie’s last film, The Lords of Salem31 is currently in pre-production for possible release later this year….Metallica has confirmed it will perform at the 30th anniversary edition of the original Rock In Rio festival in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The event is set to take place from Sep 18th to the 27th this year at the City of Rock in Rio. Metallica, which is already headlining the first-ever U.S. version of Rock In Rio in May, stated, “One Rock In Rio in a year is just not enough!”  The band added, “This will mark our eighth (!) Rock In Rio appearance, including the upcoming May show in Las Vegas. It promises to be quite the party, as we join a stellar festival line up including Faith No MoreSystem Of A DownQueens Of The Stone AgeSlipknotand many others. Tickets will go on sale in April, so keep watching for more info.”  As previously reported, Metallica, Linkin Park and Deftones are among the confirmed bands for the inaugural United States edition of the Rock In Rio festival, set to take place on May 8th, 9th, 15th and 16th in Las Vegas. The event will feature six stages and unique lineups for each of the four days.  Other acts confirmed for the Vegas event include The Pretty RecklessRise AgainstFoster The PeopleGary Clark, Jr.BleachersHollywood UndeadOf Mice & MenSam SmithNo DoubtTaylor Swift and John Legend.  Metallica is reportedly at work on its 10th studio album.  Don’t expect to see it this year, at least that is what I had heard last time I asked…..I dunno, although I’ve been DVR-ing  The Walking Dead, I haven’t had a chance to watch any episodes yet.  Blabbermouth reports this Sunday, March 1  at 10/9c  tune into AMC TV‘s live ”The Walking Dead” after-show ”Talking Dead” to watch Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian join host Chris Hardwick to discuss  new episode ”Remember” (Season 5, Episode 12), which features Ian in a guest role as a walker.  Fans can submit questions during the live broadcast at this location. Questions will be broadcast and discussed by Chris and Ian on the show.  See more here …Blabbermouth also reporting Da Capo Press has set a July 14 release date for Lamb Of God vocalist Randy Blythe‘s memoir, “Dark Days: My Tribulation And Trials”,. Random House purchased the foreign rights to the book and will act as publisher in the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.  The memoir, which puts emphasis on the past year of Randy‘s life, is an incredible, harrowing, heartbreaking, and redemptive story told in Blythe‘s already well-recognized writing style.  It chronicles his horrific experiences of dealing with being on trial in a foreign country on charges of murder.  The book’s synopsis reads:  ”In 2010, a nineteen-year-old super-fan rushed the stage during a Lamb Of God  concert in Prague. To protect himself, singer Randy Blythe pushed the fan away. Unbeknownst to Blythe, the young man hit his head on the floor when he fell and later died from the injury. Blythe was promptly incarcerated on charges carrying a prison term of five to ten years. Thirty-seven days later, he was released on bail to await trial. Although legal experts told him not to return to the Czech Republic to face the charges, Blythe explained that he ‘could not run away from this problem while the grieving family of a dead young man searched hopelessly for answers that [he] might help provide.’”  He had to mortgage his home, the home of his manager and find other ways to pay for his legal fees.  It was a nightmare for the dude and his close confidants and manager.  I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this is turned into a film…..This is crazy!  Blabbermouth also reports according to the Denton County Crime Stoppers web site, an arrest warrant has been issued for Dave Abbruzzese, who played drums for PEARL JAM from 1991 until 1994. The musician is wanted in Texas on charges involving controlled substances. The charges — which date back to September 26, 2014 — include possession of a controlled substance for an amount under 28 grams, a Class A Misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of a year in county jail and a $4,000 fine. The second charge, for “manufacture or delivery of substance” is a first degree felony which carries a sentence of between five and 99 years in prison.    Those with information leading to the arrest of Dave Abbruzzese could earn up to $1,000 cash reward by contacting the Denton County Crime Stoppers web site, which is operated by the Denton County Sheriff’s Office….Shinedown, who are hard at work on their new album,  are also having their agents work up a tour for them later this summer.  The album will probably be ready to drop around the same time me thinks. …Finally today, look for a free download of the music recorded for  Catch The Throne: The Mixtape Volume 2. This is the second installment of music inspired by HBO’s popular series Game Of Thrones, which returns Apr 12th.  Killswitch Engage has posted a snippet of their contribution called “Loyalty: House Martell” over on Soundcloud.  Anthrax, Snoop Dogg, Method Man and others also recorded music.  Apparently, the Game Of Thrones folks supplied the artists with key words or phrases from the story line or characters and the task was left up to the bands to come up with appropriate music relating to the show.  The download should be available next month. #catchthethrone….Happy 46th today to Tim Commerford of Rage Against the Machine and Future User.

What a great day yesterday turned out to be!   We had Theory Of A Deadman drop in for interviews (audio and video) and acoustic performance of “Angel.”  Love those guys, their spirit and their comedic talents too!  LOL  They crack me up!  You MUST go to their Facebook to see some of their hilarious posts!  Too funny!….Then Paulie Walnuts, Danica and Shane accompanied me to the Best Buy Theater in Times Square to do an video interview with Gavin Rossdale of Bush.  Such a lovely, kind and dare I say, handsome fellow he!  (Blush)  But towards the end of the interview, a fire alarm came on (apparently a water pipe in the area broke and the power was shut down inside the club) so we were forced to end out interview early.  Boo!   But it was a fine time and we got to meet Chewy, his Pomeranian.  Very cute.  I got to hang out on the side of the stage for their show, too. Great production, great set.  And I love they cover Talking Heads‘ “Once In A Lifetime.” And during “Little Things,”  Gavin goes into the audience all the way up to the cheap seats and interacts with fans.  It’s pretty cool to watch.  And he was jumping around the stage, clearly having a grand ole time.  Even Chris Traynor’s guitar tech commented, “Gavin is really happy tonight. It shows.”   Loved it!   Hung out for a few after the show in Stars In Stereo’s dressing room with tennis star  John McEnroe.  Ya never know who you’ll see at a rock concert in NYC.  Hit Yahoo Screen and watch Monday night’s show from Boston’s House of Blues….News of today:  Pulse of Radio reports Stone Temple Pilots drummer Eric Kretz told a New York radio station that singer Chester Bennington is on the road to recovery from a leg injury that forced his other band, Linkin Park, to cancel most of a U.S. tour. Kretz said, “His voice is in great shape, man. He still has to sit down when he’s singing. We’re in the studio right now putting vocals on four new songs this week. So he’s sitting down doing it. But he’s such a health nut that his recovery time is gonna be half of what any mortal human would allow himself to.”  Kretz also spoke about the recording sessions for STP’s new album, saying, “We’re very close (to finishing up four new songs), yeah. We’re getting into the guitar solo territory next week. We’re just finishing up the vocals on some of the stuff, and, man, it’s real exciting, ’cause this stuff is sounding huge.” Stone Temple Pilots’ first studio project with Bennington on vocals was an EP called High Rise that was released in October 2013. The new album is due out later this year. Bennington replaced original singer Scott Weiland in the lineup in May of that year. STP will head out on the road this spring as well for its first new tour dates since late 2013. The trek kicks off on April 8th in Seattle, winding down on April 30th in Philadelphia.  One dollar per ticket on the new tour will be donated to Music For Relief, a nonprofit organization dedicated to disaster relief and environmental protection that was launched in 2004 by Linkin Park….Three Days Grace has revealed its upcoming album Human will arrive in both standard and deluxe editions. The limited run, two-CD deluxe version will contain a second disc including live renditions of “Painkiller,” “Let Me Down, “Every Other Weekend” and an alternate recording of the song “Human Race.” The package will also include a custom woven beanie, a square-foot sticker featuring the album art, and a five-card set of photos and notes from each band member.  Three Days Grace drummer Neil Sanderson told us how the band goes about choosing a title for each new album: Once the songs are together, we really kind of take one step back, and you can start to see the common thread that kind of moves all through the songs, and then that common thread is essentially where our heads have been at during the process of writing. You know, we start to think about where we were at and what’s the major thing that we were really channeling.“  Anyone who pre-orders Human on iTunes or Amazon will instantly receive digital copies of the band’s two latest Number One singles, “I Am Machine,” and “Painkiller.”  Human will arrive in stores on March 31st and is the band’s first record with singer Matt Walst, who joined the band in 2013 following the departure of original frontman Adam Gontier.  Three Days Grace will kick off a spring North American tour on April 9th in Riverside, California, winding down on April 23rd in Dallas. The trek will follow gigs at the Brazilian and Argentinean editions of Lollapalooza in late March….Alice In Chains has launched a new online auction benefiting Music for Relief in its efforts toward Ebola prevention and MusiCares for its aid of musicians in need of assistance. Among the items on the auction block are a Jerry Cantrell autographed signature Superhawk Guitar, a Fender Squier Bass Guitar signed by Mike Inez, plus signed instruments from SlashTom MorelloLinkin ParkDeftonesStephen Carpenter and other items from acts like Pearl JamSystem Of A Down and more. The auction runs through March 10th. (Thanks, Noisecreep)….Metallica frontman James Hetfield has opened up in a recent video about his past, saying fans would not like him if they knew all of his dark secrets. Hetfield said, “You wouldn’t really like me if you knew my story, if you knew what horrible things I’ve done. I’m coming to grips with that, ’cause I have groups of people that I’m able to share all my horrible stuff with — shameful, extremely shameful, dark stuff. Some of it is things I’ve taken from my parents and carried it a little further. Other ones, I’ve been able to drop some of that. Other ones I’ve picked up on my own and then created — shame’s a big thing for me.”   Hetfield added, “Playing music has saved my life. Every day saves my life. When I’m able to write . . . write a riff, write some lyrics, stuff like that . . . it’s the way I connect with the world. And so I think kids that do have the gift of art, writing painting, drawing, designing, metalwork, woodwork . . . any craft-type stuff . . . caring for that . . . caring for that.”   Empowering children has been a part of Hetfield’s message for years. In other footage, he talks about overcoming his fear of responsibility, his recovery from drug addiction and what it means to be a role model.   The videos were produced by Road Recovery, an organization founded to help young people battle adversity and addiction.   Hetfield got clean in 2002 and returned to Metallica to record the St. Anger album and make the documentary Some Kind of Monster, which depicted his struggles and the band’s near-breakup.  Watch James here, here and here….Happy 33rd to The Used’s Bert McCracklen.
