I'm not sure how many people have seen this, but it was recently decided by the International Federation of Phonographic Industry (IFPI) to change the release date for new releases to Friday's instead of Tuesday. This will now be the global standard. Other countries have had their own release dates prior to the announcement. This is part of their plan to combat piracy. With everyone having the same release date, it should take away from illegal advance downloading. The IFPI also thinks albums will sell better starting on a Friday. This change will happen sometime this summer. I wonder if we will continue with New Music Monday or will it get changed to New Music Thursday?
