In New Documentary Clip, Dave Grohl Remembers Working with Producer Butch Vig

ABC/Andrea McCallinThe history of Nevermind producer Butch Vig's Smart Studios will be told in the documentary The Smart Studios Story. In a clip from the film, which you can watch via Pitchfork.com, Dave Grohl remembers working with Vig when he first joined Nirvana.

"When I joined the band, they had this 'demo' that sounded amazing, it sounded huge," Grohl says in the clip. "It sounded different than the things that they had done before, and everyone talked about Butch."

Vig co-founded Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin with his Garbage band mate Steve Marker in 1983. Along with Nirvana, bands including The Smashing Pumpkins, Fall Out Boy and Death Cab for Cutie also recorded albums at Smart Studios before it closed in 2010.

The Smart Studios Story is currently screening across the U.S. on a tour. The film will be released on DVD November 25, this year's Record Store Day Black Friday event.
