Record Store Day Black Friday vinyl releases include Chris Cornell, Rush, Gorillaz & more
Thanksgiving is approaching and so is the 2017 edition of Record Store Day's Black Friday event, held this year on November 24. As usual, a wide variety of cool limited-edition vinyl discs will be available exclusively in independent record stores, including releases by Chris Cornell, Rush, Gorillaz and The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach.
The late Cornell's offering is a 12-inch EP titled Poncier, named after Matt Dillon's character in the 1992 grunge rom-com, Singles. The five-song collection, which includes the track "Seasons," will be available on vinyl and cassette with artwork by Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament.
Gorillaz has a two-LP picture disc version of their latest album, Humanz, while Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats have a festive 7" black vinyl single featuring their take on two Christmas classics: "Baby It's Cold Outside" and "Santa Baby."
Rush's contribution to the campaign is a seven-inch single featuring "Closer to the Heart" backed with "Madrigal," both tracks from the 1977 album A Farewell to Kings.
Auerbach's contribution is a seven-inch single with a new song called "Cellophane Angel," as well as tracks from two of his collaborators, Sonny Smith and Robert Finley.
Other artists releasing vinyl for Record Store Day Black Friday include Anthrax, U2, At the Drive-In, Black Label Society, Cold War Kids, Fleet Foxes, The Kills, Dave Matthews, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, and Sublime.
