Danish prime minister gifts Metallica's "Master of Puppets" reissue to Indonesia's heavy metal-loving president
Metallica: masters of diplomacy?
According to The Jakarta Post, Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen gifted Indonesia President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo with a copy of Metallica's recent Master of Puppets reissue box set during a bilateral meeting held Tuesday in the Southeast Asia nation.
So why did the prime minster of Denmark give the president of Indonesia a Metallica box set? Well, two reasons: one, drummer Lars Ulrich, who signed the package, is from Denmark; and two, Jokowi is actually a huge metalhead, and counts himself a fan of Metallica, Megadeth and Lamb of God.
"Prime Minister Rasmussen understands my favorite [music]," Jokowi said of the gift.
Rasmussen also posted a photo of a smiling Jokowi holding the box set on Twitter. "Indonesia's president @jokowi seemed eager to dig into his diplomatic gift from Denmark: A #MasterOfPuppets box signed by #heavymetal fans' all-time favorit[e] drummer @larsulrich," he wrote in the caption.
In return for the Master of Puppets box set, Jokowi gifted Rasmussen a traditional Indonesian dagger, which is arguably even more metal.
