May 9, 2011 According to The Pulse Of Radio, AVENGED SEVENFOLD will premiere the music video for its latest single, "So Far Away", on Tuesday (May 10) via MTV, MTV2 and MTV.com. The clip is described as a "raw and emotional" tribute to late AVENGED drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, who died in December 2009 from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. The track itself, which appears on the band's current "Nightmare" album, is said in a press statement to be a "very personal goodbye" to Sullivan.
The "So Far Away" video was directed by Wayne Isham, who has previously helmed videos for such established artists as METALLICA, MÖTLEY CRÜE, SIMPLE PLAN, PANTERA, 'N SYNC, SHANIA TWAIN, GODSMACK, BRITNEY SPEARS, LEONA LEWIS, PINK FLOYD, SHERYL CROW, JOSS STONE, MADONNA, AVRIL LAVIGNE, DEF LEPPARD and BON JOVI.
Following Sullivan's death, the band recruited his favorite drummer, ex-DREAM THEATER member Mike Portnoy, to record the drum tracks for "Nightmare" and tour with the band through 2010. The group then found a new touring drummer in 2011 named Arin Ilejay. Guitarist Synyster Gates talked about the newest member of AVENGED. "We always kind of thought it would be cool, you know, with Jimmy's death if it could breathe new life and a new career for somebody young, which is the case," he told The Pulse Of Radio. "We have a new drummer, his name's Arin Ilejay, and he's unbelievable. He's 22 years old, and he's just a sweet, young, awesome kid. He shreds, he's amazing, and it's really made us feel certainly very excited to give him this opportunity."
